So today I finished off Skoggangsmand, and a whole bunch of pieces fell into place for chapter three! It’s a perfect compliment to Markens grøde, and of course the fact that they came out in the same year and activate the same topoi makes it really fun! I was so excited and revved up about the comparison that I sat down and banged out about four pages of rough ideas. I really think this section is going to be a kind of capstone or lynchpin or whatever you call it for this chapter. It pulls together all the loose ends (Nansen, the hunting narratives, Pan, and Når vi døde vågner and the theme of the abject masculine). And Skoggangsmand is a much better book than I ever imagined it would be. It puts Bjørnson to shame, at least!
